L’Indonésie achète 100 Léo à l'Allemagne

Indonesia has decided to buy Leopard Main Battle Tanks (MBT) from Germany with delivery schedule to commence in October this year, a statement released by the Indonesian defense ministry said here on Monday.

Defense Deputy Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said that the decision to buy those tanks from Germany annulled government's initial plans to buy them from the Netherlands.

Sjafrie said that the Netherlandish government provided no certainty regarding Indonesia's proposal to buy the Leopard tanks from that country.

The plan to buy Leopard main battle tanks were related to the government's strategic plans to improve army forces' might for the period of 2012 to 2014.

Sjafrie said that an allocation of 280 million U.S. dollars has been set to procure those tanks.

He added that an initial delivery of 15 tanks from Germany would take place in October this year, followed with gradual delivery of up to 100 units until October 2014.

L’Indonésie reçoit un don de 4 C-130H australiens


en échange de la prise en charge de la maintenance et de la remise à neuf des avions l'Australie donne gracieusement ces 4 C-130H qui vont être retirés du service actif à cause de restrictions budgétaires, à l'Indonésie pour que les capacités de transport de cette dernière puisse être améliorées surtout dans les cas humanitaires, l'Indonésie ayant subit dans le passé proche plusieures catastrophes naturelles.

Australia and Indonesia have signed a memorandum of understanding for the transfer of four surplus Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Lockheed Martin C-130H tactical transports.

The signing was made after Australian prime minister Julia Gillard presented an offer to Indonesia for the transfer of the aircraft in November 2011.

Transferring the Hercules to Indonesia will improve the country's airlift capability, and support humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, says Australia's Department of Defence.

Jakarta will fund the refurbishment and ongoing maintenance costs of the four aircraft, adds the DoD.

The aircraft involved in the agreement are part of the RAAF's fleet of 12 C-130Hs, which will be retired early as the country reduces defence spending.

Indonesian Flankers to make Australian debut at Pitch Black

We've finally been given the clearance to publish this after sitting on it for the past few weeks. The TNI-AU (Indonesian Air Force) will be sending it's Sukhoi Su-27/30 Flanker interceptors to Darwin for the upcoming Exercise Pitch Black. Four aircraft, reportedly 2 Su-27s and 2 Su-30s, will make up the TNI-AU's debut contingent at the biannual multinational air defence exercise. From what we understand, the TNI-AU will however not take part in the full exercise, and will be in Australia for approximately 1 week.

The TNI-AU will join aircraft from Australia, Singapore, Thailand and the United States for this year's Pitch Black, which will be held in the skies over Australia's Northern Territories from late July to mid-August.

Indonesia operates a mix of Su-27SK/SKM and Su-30MK2 variants of the Flanker. This will be the first time the TNI-AU and it's Flankers will make an appearance at Pitch Black.

Indonesian Sukhois Arrive at Darwin for Pitch Black 2012

Four Flanker type fighters from Indonesia are participating for the first time in the annual Pitch Black exercise in Australia opening today. Arriving at Darwin, Australia the Indonesian fighters two Su-30 and two Su-27 were escorted by to Australian No. 77 Squadron F/A-18 Hornet Aircraft.

Exercise Pitch Black is a major multi-national biennial exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force, involving Offensive Counter Air and Offensive Air Support missions being flown at training ranges across the Northern Territory. Exercise Pitch Black 12 beginning today (27 July) will continue through 17 August 2012, and involve 2,200 personnel and up to 94 aircraft from Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, New Zealand and the United States. Operations will be commanded from Darwin and Tyndal AFB in the US.
