Army senior leader visits Morocco, Tunisia
VICENZA, Italy -- The commanding general for the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa made his first visit to Africa since taking command of the Italy-based headquarters in July. Maj. Gen. Todd R. Wasmund visited military leaders in Morocco and Tunisia August 21-24 to discuss issues of mutual security interest.
"Both Morocco and Tunisia have highly capable and professional armies that are addressing regional security threats with outstanding vision and
leadership," Wasmund said. "The U.S. Army remains committed to engaging with our African partners to help meet their priorities and continuing to coordinate security cooperation, training and operations on the continent."
"Security in the U.S. and Europe is inextricably linked with security in Africa," he said. "Synchronizing with our African and European partners, as well as our State Department country teams, is crucial as we continue strengthening those relationships and supporting regional security."
This is the first of numerous visits to African partners that Wasmund anticipates in the coming months, he said.
SETAF-AF is responsible for coordinating all U.S. Army activities in Africa in support of U.S. Africa Command and U.S. Army Europe and Africa. U.S Army activities include military readiness exercises across the continent, hundreds of security force assistance engagements, crisis response and enduring posture support. These activities strengthen partner networks in
Africa, build partner capacity against regional and global security threats, and provide strategic access for U.S. forces in contingency operations.

JFCNP J9 MILITARY PARTNERSHIP BRANCH CONDUCTS NATO EVALUATION OF TUNISIAN HELICOPTER SQUADRON
Representatives from Joint Force Command Naples Military Partnership Branch, Joint Force Command Brunssum and Allied Air Command joined a Tunisian evaluation team to conduct the Self-evaluation Level-1 (SEL-1) of the Tunisian 32° Helicopter Squadron from August 29 to September 06, 2022.
The evaluation is part of the Operational Capabilities Concept Evaluation and Feedback (OCC E&F) Programme, which is a NATO evaluation programme specifically designed to assess the level of interoperability and military capability of partner units against NATO standards.
The 32° Helicopter Squadron is part of the transport support unit category, and is capable of several functions such as conducting air movement and air mobility, aeromedical evacuation, airborne and reconnaissance missions.
The evaluation marked not only the first of a Tunisian Unit, but also the first NATO evaluation ever conducted in an African Country.
The SEL-1 is only the first step out of the four that make up the OCC E&F programme. The evaluation process includes four steps. The unit that successfully passes the last step is awarded “Combat Ready” status, and is recognized as a potential contributor to NATO-led operations.
