USAF Next-Gen T-X Trainer

Message par tahiadidou »

This is the recently unveiled (clean-sheet design) proposal by Boeing/Saab.
Boeing unveils contender for Northrop T-38 replacement

13 SEPTEMBER, 2016 BY: LEIGH GIANGRECO ST LOUIS
Boeing and Saab finally took the wraps off a purposely-designed jet trainer today to offer as a replacement initially for the US Air Force’s fleet of more than 400 Northrop T-38s. Showing off a design featuring twin, canted tails and a shoulder-mounted, anhedral wing, the Boeing/Saab team will compete with a high-powered trainer with a 17,700lb-thrust GE Aviation F404-GE-402 with full afterburner.

The team’s clean sheet design resembles Saab’s compact Gripen fighter and its twin tails allow for more maneuverability at high angle of attack, Darryl Davis, president of Boeing Phantom Works Defense told reporters. In its most recent draft request for proposals, the US Air Force called for 25˚ of high angle of attack.

The current configuration of the Boeing T-X provides hardpoints on the center fuselage for a cargo pod, but does not have additional hardpoints on the wings. However, Boeing could grow to two hardpoints per wing plus the centerline point without changing the aircraft’s design. Those capabilities could leave the door open for a possible aggressor role, though Davis cautioned Boeing is focused on winning the T-X competition first.
“This is all about the trainer,” he says. “If we choose to go down that path, we built something with a lot of growth potential.”

This is the T-50A by the Lockheed/Korea Aerospace Industries (LM/KAI) team. Two flying models have been built so far and went through initial testing.
Image
After scrapping its own (clean-sheet) design LM decided to work with KAI on an upgraded Golden Eagle, a derivative of the F16.
...The company has invested heavily in a block upgrade of the T-50 that adds an aerial refuelling receptacle on the dorsal of the aircraft, as seen on the first production example unveiled in South Korea in December. It includes an embedded training system and fifth-generation cockpit similar to what’s installed in the F-35 Lightning II.The aircraft takes advantage of open system architecture standards developed by the air force and industry to speed up the integration of new sensors, weapons and other capabilities...

This is the Northrop model 400. NG partnered with BAE for the demonstrator and L3 for the ground simulator. This is a clean-sheet design despite using BAE's Hawk to test out a variety of systems and features. First flight is due by end of 2016.
...The low risk, clean sheet design by Northrop's subsidiary Scaled Composite carries heritage of its own T-38 Talon trainer jet, which it is intended to replace. Powered by a single GE F404 turbofan engine, the trainer has a low-wing design, with engine air inlets in wing root and a relatively large vertical tail.
The yet to be named trainer have a high visibility tandem seat cockpit with a good down view angle and the tricycle under carriage has extended wheelbase between the nose and main landing gear. The aircraft is progressing through taxi trials and is expected to achieve first flight by year end...

No video since no flight has taken place yet ;)

Like for the Lockheed offer Raytheon is partnering with Leonardo to produce an upgraded Aermacchi M-346 (le cousin du YAK-130) called T-100. So, no clean-sheet design.
Image
Powered by two Honeywell Aerospace F124 engines, the T-100 will deliver best-in-class, thrust-to-weight ratio representative of today’s 4th and 5th generation fighters. The T-100 will feature a modern Heads-Up Display, a customizable Large-Area Display and a fully integrated Helmet Mounted-Display designed to prepare pilots for the advanced avionics they use in frontline tactical aircraft. Additionally, the T-100 offers:
- Embedded tactical training simulation with live virtual blended constructive capability
- Hands-on throttle and stick controls
- Tactical data links
- Ground proximity warning system
A pilot and his wingman, flying together, chase targets that are not real.
The targets are computer-generated trackfiles, uploaded through a data link from a ground-based system or called up by the instructor pilot in the aircraft. And although the student pilot is in the air, the wingman is in a high-fidelity simulator. Yet the look and feel is indistinguishable from a mission with two real aircraft.
"It was so realistic, it felt like I was back in an F-16," said Brick Izzi, a 25-year-veteran fighter pilot and chief engineer for business development at Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems business. Izzi tested the system in a real aircraft against a constructed airborne fighter target. "I was looking outside the cockpit for a real MiG-29," he said.

Finally, those 4 offers would consist of a fully integrated system, that is, not just aircrafts but also at a minimum a ground training system.
