Colombia-UH-60L BLACK HAWK Helicopter

WASHINGTON, July 20, 2012 – The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress today of a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Colombia for five UH-60L BLACK HAWK Helicopters and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support for an estimated cost of $87 million.

The Government of Colombia has requested a possible sale of 5 UH-60L BLACK HAWK Helicopters, 10 T700-GE-701D General Electric Engines, warranty, internal fuel tanks, spare and repair parts, tools and support equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor engineering, logistics, and technical support services, and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $87M.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country, which has been and continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in South America.

Colombia intends to use these helicopters to modernize its armed forces. The purchase of UH-60L BLACK HAWK Helicopters by the Colombian Army will contribute to Colombia’s goal of updating its capabilities while enhancing interoperability between Colombia, the U.S., and other allies.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The prime contractor will be Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in Stratford, Connecticut. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of the proposed sale will require U.S. Government or contractor representatives to travel to Colombia for a period of 6 weeks for equipment deprocessing/fielding, and system checkout.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

Colombia orders fifth C295 from Airbus Military

Colombia's fleet of Airbus Military C295 tactical transports will be increased to five aircraft early next year, under a follow-on deal signed with the European manufacturer.

Now in final assembly at Airbus Military's San Pablo site in Seville, Spain, one additional transport will be delivered to the Colombian air force in February 2013, the company announced on 17 September. The asset will be used to perform "military transport and humanitarian aid missions", it adds in a statement.

The Colombian air force took delivery of its current four Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127G-engined C295s in 2008 and 2009, as recorded by Flightglobal's MiliCAS database.

Elbit lands Colombian mission training centre deal

By: Arie Egozi Tel Aviv

Elbit Systems will build a new mission training centre (MTC) for the Colombian air force during 2014, with its contract valued at $18.5 million.

According to the Israeli company, the facility is designed to improve the operational readiness of fighter pilots by training in various mission scenarios, in varying war zones and using relevant threat environments. The high quality of instruction to be provided using the MTC will enable the customer to perform some of its training sorties using synthetic training devices instead of combat aircraft, allowing for the optimal use of existing resources, it adds.

Elbit refused to confirm the identity of its customer for the MTC deal, saying only that its contract has been placed on behalf of a "Latin American air force", but sources confirm it is Colombia.

The Colombian air force operates types including ex-Israeli air force Kfir fighters

Its new contract is built on the experience gained from building a major MTC for the Israeli air force, which supports the instruction of pilots for the service's Lockheed Martin F-16s and Boeing F-15s.

Colombia's future MTC will enable joint training between students, both within the air force and at an interoperable level, including its integration with other training systems, even those housed at geographically distant locations.

The Colombian air force's combat aircraft inventory includes ex-Israeli air force Kfir fighters supplied by Israel Aerospace Industries, plus Cessna A-37, Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucano and Rockwell OV-10 strike aircraft, says Flightglobal's MiliCAS database.

La Colombie reçoit ses S-70i

Image
