Bangladesh – C-130E Aircraft

WASHINGTON --- The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress today of a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Bangladesh to provide regeneration, overhaul, modifications, and logistics support for 4 Lockheed Martin C-130Es and associated parts, equipment, and training for an estimated cost of $180 million.

The Government of Bangladesh has requested a possible sale to provide the regeneration, overhaul, modifications, and logistics support of 4 Lockheed Martin C-130E United States Air Force (USAF) baseline aircraft and 20 T56AA Rolls-Royce engines being provided as grant Excess Defense Articles (EDA). Also included are transportation, aircraft ferry support, repair and return, spare and repair parts, support equipment, tools and test equipment, technical data and publications, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $180 million

The proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by enabling the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) to use its C-130 fleet to respond more capably to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief needs in the region and support Bangladesh’s significant contributions to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, and support operations to counter violent extremist organizations.

It will also improve the commonality and interoperability of the BAF and the U.S. Air Force. The proposed sale of support will help to modernize the BAF’s aging cargo aircraft fleet. The C-130E will provide Bangladesh with an improved capability for the movement of cargo and personnel in humanitarian missions.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The prime contractor will be determined via competitive bid. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Bangladesh.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale. This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

Le MiG-21 – un avion éternel
Image

Eurocopter AS365 N3+ Dauphin helicopters enter service with the Bangladesh Army for use in humanitarian missions and VIP airlift

The Bangladesh Army has marked its formal service introduction of two new Eurocopter AS365 N3+ Dauphin helicopters, which will be deployed on United Nations humanitarian missions and operated in multi-role transport duties for the republic.

Supplied through the Eurocopter South East Asia subsidiary, these are the first Eurocopter-built rotorcraft to join the Bangladesh Army’s aviation fleet, and they were presented today during a ceremony at the military service’s Dhaka Cantonment headquarters.

In preparation for the twin-engine Dauphin’s service introduction, an initial group of Bangladesh Army pilots attended ground school classes at Eurocopter South East Asia’s Singapore facility, and were trained in the subsidiary’s AS365 N3+ full-flight simulator. Additional crew members are to follow, including pilots who will be qualified as instructors.

“These two Dauphins will significantly enhance our capabilities, as we continue to participate actively in world peacekeeping missions,” explained Brigadier General Abdullah Al Azhar, commander of the ad hoc army aviation group. “The provision of simulator training by Eurocopter South East Asia has greatly facilitated the service entry of the aircraft, allowing our pilots to operate them from the onset with confidence and ease.”

To cater to the growing Dauphin fleet in Asia, Eurocopter South East Asia was designated earlier this year as the regional hub to provide training, major inspection and heavy structural repairs for the Dauphin family of helicopters.

“We welcome the Bangladesh Army to Eurocopter’s global family of operators,” said Bernard Brenner, President & CEO of Eurocopter South East Asia. “Their confidence in our products stems not just from the Dauphin’s proven capabilities, but also from our ability to provide them with the full suite of support and services, which comes as a direct benefit from Eurocopter’s policy of being in close proximity to the customers.”

Eurocopter’s AS365 N3+ is the company’s latest member in the Dauphin helicopter family, featuring more powerful Arriel 2C turboshaft engines, an increased gross weight, a 4-axis autopilot and glass cockpit.

Bangladesh Inducts Chinese Tanks, Radars

Thu, Dec 13, 2012 12:03 CET

The Bangladesh Army has started inducting fourth-generation China-made MTB-2000 tanks and a weapons locating radar procured through outright purchase, according to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"This is the first time our army is getting such new and ultramodern tanks, all bought with our own funds," she announced during an induction ceremony of the Army Aviation Group area at Tejgaon on Thursday.

Bangladesh has placed an order for 44 of these MBT2000 tanks that closely resembles the Al Khalid tanks in the service of the Pakistan army since 2001.

"This will further enrich the armoured corps of Bangladesh…Military power will increase. That is why this is a unique day for the nation," the Prime Minister proudly claimed.

The MTB-2000 tanks, once refueled totally, can travel up to 400 kilometres at 61 kilometres per hour on normal roads.

Laced with anti-explosive armour, the MTB-2000 can fire 125mm shells via computer controls. It has one 7.62mm and other 12.7mm machine guns.

"We have decided to upgrade some more T-59 tanks," she said. "We will soon bring Sound Ranging Equipment from England…it will be added on to the artillery corps… Enemy canons, rockets and long range artilleries can be easily detected with this".

Russia, Bangladesh Sign $1 Billion Defense Deal

Wed, Jan 16, 2013 12:57 CET

Russian President Vladimir Putin Tuesday announced a $1 billion loan to Bangladesh for purchases of Russian-made arms and military equipment.

The announcement came after talks with Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Russia…will allocate a $1 billion loan to Bangladesh for purchases of Russian arms and military equipment,” Putin said.

Bangladesh is likely to use the cash to buy MiG-29SMT fighter jets and upgrade an earlier batch of MiG-29s, as well as buying BTR-80 armored vehicles and Mi-171 military helicopters, according to media reports.

The deal is part of an array of agreements signed during Putin’s talks with Hasina in Moscow on Tuesday. The two countries also settled on a project to jointly build Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant and signed memorandums of understanding in various spheres, including anti-terrorism, justice, healthcare and education, Ria Novosti reported.
